“What the what? For AD fans, it's a pretty damn obvious reference. Is it unusual that Woot would cater to an audience for a show that was canceled after three seasons for low ratings? Yeah. That there's a debate about the referense is probably a testament to the show's low ratings; it's absolutely an AD reference, no question. But it's not an abstract shirt.”

“Agreed with DrakXXX 100%. Never mind Ramy's history: no matter the artist, this just doesn't merit an EC, especially with more deserving designs waiting in the wings.”

“I always loved "The Juniper Tree". I wasn't an emo kid. I just loved macabre stories. "The Juniper Tree" might be the one fairy tale that is completely, utterly impossible for Disney to adapt. There's absolutely no wiggle room in the plot for anything resembling G-rated. Rambling aside, this is the first tree shirt in a while that I can get behind. Well done, littleclyde!”

“If this were a derby entry, woot would reject it for being like about 700,000 shirts you can find elsewhere. Shirtaday would look at this shirt and say it's overdone.”

“I remember being skeptical of letter derbies at first, but they've been pretty consistently solid so far. I'm looking forward to seeing what the artists conjure.

“I don't quite agree with this, and I think there's more diversity in Walmazan's work, but that's for another time and place (I'll be the first to admit that the entire thing hinges on one's definition of "diversity", which could sway in so many directions).
TGentry- Your posts are definitely enlightening, but I do think an aspect of tunnel vision is necessary when talking about what wins derbies, especially since the comment that launched this thread had to do with artists entering the derby. And the math can go both ways. Say there are four derbies in a month, and 12 prints. A "dominant" artist can register 25 percent of those prints on their own. Throw in two artists, and suddenly you can easily have half of the month's derby prints go to two artists. Even if the other 6 shirts were by six different artists, well, that's 12 shirts for 8 artists- the same ratio that we've seen for the last 9 derbies (27 shirts for 18 artists). I'm not saying that that's what's happened. I'm saying that it's possible for a small handful of artists to dominate, even at the print-to-artist ratio we're seeing. I'm not even saying it's unbalanced. I mean, from a purely subjective standpoint, I do find it annoying when I can count on not even bothering to look at half of the derby winners. That, of course, is purely my own taste in shirts.”
