“Yea, I find it surprising many people believe that the voltage necessary to bridge current from a cloud in the sky to the ground can prevent bridging over the dielectric in the capacitor fuse (or a filiment fuse, God forbid) to the remainder of their electronics. It's hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of volts people!”

“Exactly how? These are the basic tenants of science, you've just dictated the order in which they are carried. You observe a result and therefore have the basis for a test, you perform the test to come to a logical conclusion and an extension of that is to verify that your conclusion is correct. Evolution cannot meet the testing criteria because there is no process to test, just conjectures on what already is.”

“In truth, the reason evolutionists must attack other forms of explanations for the beginning and continuing existence of life is the faulty premise of what they teach is science. Science requires three basic tenants: An expirement to perform, a final outcome, and verifiable tests that conclude a single outcome. Evolution, like Creationism, has only the final element to work with. The original theory was actually derived from observations from micro-adaptation. The rest if fabrication that cannot be verified because it is untestable. In the end, both come down to the faith of the individual making the statement. Personally, I'm a Creationist that believes the Bible is the complete and unchanged word of God, but then again, that doesn't carry much weight in the scientific community.”

“You really only need to worry about directly exposed components (i.e. if you put them beside a memory card). Natural magnets rarely have enough magnetic force to manipulate computer components, generally because they're magnetically shielded (using a low reluctance material of some sort, including the casing). I wouldn't worry that much about these unless you're near a computer with exposed internals.”

“It actually is a throwback from where most l33t-speak words come from, i.e. a slip of the fingers and placing a 'p' instead of an 'o' then following through with the replacement. (teh).”

“As several others have mentioned, the quality of the signal is also dependent on the strength of the insulation combined with the quality of the conductor. Use the wrong metal, and your cable will be subjected to high resistance connections which will create heat and also damage your insulation over time. Not to mention the power bills that come along with that. One of the biggest issues with cable length is most adequately illustrated by network cabling. Cable type CAT5e has a standard length of 300 feet before you start to get signal degradation. This is because the eddy current losses over the course of the wire along with heat loss(represented by I2R in the electrical world) will make the resulting signal unusable (remember, 1s and 0s are only differences in voltages, not a number in the strictest sense). Also, attenuation from other nearby cables will disrupt the signal going through the cable (called capacitance effect). However, in this case, I don't think 12 feet will cause a significant signal degradation of any kind, though you may get a hint of packet loss. Also, like discussed before, lower quality cables will break down over time and the insulation becomes exposed to the elements and as the conductors continue to pass current. Though for all practicality, most of us are not videophile/audiophile to really notice the differences in the quality of it's construction or signal.”
